Sure, She LOOKS Fine....

...But this was only about 2 hours after we got out of the emergency room with Staci. Yesterday (Father's Day) around 9:00 in the morning, I heard Staci start crying. At first I didn't even think about it... I was making a nice Father's Day breakfast and was trying to hurry and finish so we could take it to Geoff in bed.... didn't work, but we tried. Anyway, after about 1/2 an hour I noticed that Staci was bleeding pretty badly, but acting OK. I looked in her mouth thinking maybe she bit her lip, and found that she had a huge gash in her tongue. I am assuming she fell somehow... since climbing is her FAVORITE thing to do, but since I didn't see it, I am not positive. The tongue got continually worse because she was biting it more and more (because it was bothering her, I guess) and so we took her in to the emergency room at about noon. I had heard that it is very rare to put stitches in the tongue because they close up on their own pretty quickly, and every doctor and nurse we saw at the hospital said that the tongue would probably be fine.... but once they looked at it, they all changed their mind!! Poor baby! She had to be put in a twilight sleep to have the tongue repaired. As you can see from the pictures, she is doing OK now. This was only with a little Motrin, and we haven't even given her the prescription pain killer yet, because she seems to be doing OK... in fact, she is climbing all over things again!!

"Where's your owie, Staci?"
A mouth full of stitches!!! (Sorry if you don't like to see things like this....but I know my Mom wants to see it! She is a nurse!)A HAPPY BABY in spite of it all!!

Wow! That is quite a gash! It looks like it will heal quickly though and won't leave too big of scar. What better place to have a scar than on your tongue where only your dentist will see it...unless of course she decides to show all the kids on the playground where she almost bit her tongue off. I wouldn't put it past her. Anyway, she sure looks happy now and I'm glad.

OH MY GOODNESS!!!!!!!!! I actually got a hole in my tongue in elementary school and it did close on its own within a couple of days, but it was not NEARLY as long as Staci's!! WOW! Mine was the size of my fron tooth, so not very big... Poor thing! My hardest things was the eating part... That really bothered my tongue for the next few days! What a FUN way to spend Fathers Day! Love ya, Chami

I want you to remember this incident when Staci turns into a teenager and starts disagreeing with you. Whatever you do, don't ever say,"Bite your tongue, young lady!" What a sweetie pie, smiling after that ordeal.

now, when she is older she can introduce herself "Hi! I'm Staci! I almost bit off my own tongue!" Good times. Everyone needs something strange like that to say about themselves. Andrea and her tack in her nose, Melissa stabbing herself with scissors, me pulling a waffle iron on my face. You know stuff like that. Welcome to the club Staci!!!
Love you Em!

Poor girl. That is a huge cut. What a brave little girl.
Hey, I went up to my grandparents cabin this week with my sister's and one morning I ran to your grandparents cabin. I still can't believe how big it is. When are you coming down? Kristen told me it is soon then you thought.
